Like most countries, Australia has an agricultural fair which they call Royal (city name) Show (eg. Royal Melbourne Show) and when there’s royal show there are showbags; a themed carry bag of goods from a commercial sponsor.
They contain samples of the range of goods produced by the vendor.
Most showbags are marketed to the young, containing lots of lollies (candy) and chocolate, dolls and other toys. Common themes for showbags include confectionery brands, trademarked toys.
They used to be free or have only a nominal charge to promote the brand awareness
I’ve seen this done at several shows here in the U.S. I’ve been to a bunch of medical shows where the exhibitors give out bags that only have their name, logo, etc. no product.
I have also been to an agriculture show where vendors gave out bags with a bunch of product. So it looks like this is not unique to Australia.
