This doll was a hard plastic doll, very small, the size of a clementine orange. They were NOT the Kupie doll (or whatever it was called) but do look very similar. They were cheap and I remember them from Toys R Us. They came in small plastic wrapperrs and were sold at the front of the store. They were all different dolls, different positions or facial expressions. That made them all collectible. I believe they also came with candy bottles for kids to eat.
They were called Lil Babies
In the 80’s there were Oodles. They used to the same mold that they used to make Oodles in the 80’s to make the Lil Babies. Here’s a link to pictures of Oodles.

Caleb’s Mom is probably correct, it sounds like Lil Babies. I don’t remember candy, but I think mine came with a scrap of neon polyester for a diaper.
