I am a woman and mother of three (one girl) and I really wonder why we as little girls r always given baby dolls or as women give these to young girls to play with. For what, to prepare them/us 4 motherhood?? I don’t see boys receiving toys that have 2 do w/fatherhood. I use 2 buy them too, but then I realized the difference in how we raise our boys from our girls. Ladies I know a lot of you do already but can more of us give our daughters toys other than babies. Half these teens on Maury want kids because of this being embedded in our minds from youth. I have yet 2 c a teen boy on a talk show talking about wanting a baby. It is not glamourised 2 them. This is why most of us women tend to sit around and fanatize about being married & being a mother and men think about their cars, careers and money. Redirect our daughters thoughts, please. Does anyone feel as passionate as I do regarding this matter? I’m not saying 2 band babydolls but don’t be so quick to give them…

The reason that most girls are given baby dolls to play with as a youth, is in essence to prepare them for adulthood, it has been tradition in times of the past to give young girls dolls because they had to have children at a much younger age and had to be prepared earlier. As for toys for boys being aimed for fatherhood the answer to that is confusing. The role of a father is to be "the bread winner" so to speak. They have for centuries played with blocks, and trucks which aim their minds toward working and a career in which they want to persue. Most women fantisize about being married and having children because they are essentially the people who will bring new life into the world and continue our species. As to giving you chilidren dolls, it was what i was given as a child, but it does not necesserially determine the future of your child. If you are really concerned expose her to toys that are concidered "male" toys, or I would surgest unisex toys. (I don’t know how old she is or what she is really into) But girls can like videogames if the are older, building blocks are good toys for younger children, bikes scooters and iceskating are good hobbies for all children too. (I live where it is cold so we all iceskate I don’t know about you). Your daughter will become the person that she isdestoned to become wether you give her dolls or trucks, just listen to her and allow her to express herself by playing with the things that she enjoys. My little boy is 11 months old but his favorite toy is this little hard plastic doll. The doll is my neices but he wont give it up. He isn’t mean to the doll he is actually very loving he gives the baby doll kisses and hugs and is very affectionate. But it has gotten to the point that he wont go to bed without this doll. Is there anything i should be worried about?

There is nothing wrong with him identifying with a doll. He is still a baby himself.

My son likes his ride on toys, swings, rocking horse. His favorite toy that you didn’t mention are just balls. The rollarounds are good, I guess you did mention them. I guess that is what I’d say is number one.

I was at the store today, in the toy isle and my 11 month old was reaching out for the baby dolls. I bought her one, and she loves it! Shes so sweet and gentle with the baby, its adorable. She points to the features on her face. Im just curious about when other little girls started to show interest in baby dolls, I had no idea it happened so young

My daughter was 2 and I was wondering when she was ever going to want a baby doll. Now she has 4 and loves them all.
At daycare the toddlers generally show an interest around 18 months and love the dolly centre when it gets put in the drama centre.
So sweet that your little one has empathy and cares for a baby already.

when i was growing up for 1986 to early 90’s i had these little hard toy babies they are about 3 to 4 cm tall, flesh colour and they used to come with a little piece of bright material as a nappy. girl could collect them each one was going something different. if any one knows the name of them and or where to find them it would be greatly appreciated.

Were they the babies that when you put them under warm water they would either turn pink or blue?

I had a blue one… dont know where you can find them these days tho sorry.
