Most of the time these dolls are very easy to clean provided they are not painted. The paint can come off very easily. So I guess my question would be, is the doll painted? How old is the doll?

This doll is in good condition. The shoes are breaking down, but the doll is intact. The entire doll is made of a bisque material. The hair is a raised bisque painted brown. The eyes are blue and open and close. Two white porcelain (?) teeth peak out from under her upper lip. The head, arms and legs articulate with the body. She is wearing a yellow frilly muslin hat and dress, both with brown embroidery. I could send a photo, but don’t know how.:-)
it is tough to say with the Reliable toy company. It all depends on the overall condition, is it in the original outfit etc. + there are so many different sizes and types. Sounds like you may have a Babykins doll? My best guess is $25 – $40 but you never know. you just need the right buyer…. Good luck!!

brief history of a cheaply made porcelain doll in the late 70’s, sold through magazine ads across the country and how she spawned countless generic porcelain dolls we see now-a-days in stores or ads. She never had a name and could only be recognized by her brown print dress, blond rooted wig cap, crocheted raffia bonnet and ceramic molded black mary jane shoes.
I have collected these dolls for years till one day she makes a splash on ebay’s doll discussion board years back and a frequent boardie affectionately names her “WALDA” as she is like “where’s Waldo?” as she is seen almost everywhere from Antique stores,Doll shows, and even thrift stores or flea markets and 99.9% of the time sold as a “antique” doll, which she is not. She has also been popping up in ebay sales as a “haunted” doll…poor girl.
She virtually has no value as TONS were made, she only has sentimental value to some, to those who know her on the ebay doll message board and to me as I grew up with my own set of these dolls, I used to only refer to her as “that doll in the brown dress” lol
This clip is mainly to 1. educate novice doll collectors or dealers and 2. Entertain those who know about our poor beloved Walda.
I want to thank the doll people on the ebay doll board for inspiring me to put this together ,Nurse_Edna for naming our Walda, and Doll Links for helping me find some original ADs of Walda.

My video skills stink so I’ve uploaded a (hopefully) better video of the Black Boy Fishing. Black Boy Fishing Automaton – made using an antique french bisque doll, an old music box movement and lots of wires, wood, sweat and frustration. This one took me about a month to figure out. I had him dismantled many times before getting him to work.

I recently aquired an old victorian bisque doll, from a carboot sale, im not sure of her real age or origins, she looks old, i collect dolls, but this one is a bit strange! shes made of bisque and has open/closing sleep eyes which are the most striking blue and quite freaky, shes pale white like a ghost, the blue of her eyes contrast draymaticly with the pale skin tone, everyone who has seen her says shes spooky , ive not had her long only afew days. she is normanly on a shelf in my room but i bring her down stairs during the day because i get a strange feeling she doesnt like being left alone, i notice at night shes a bit freaky especially around midnight, she seems to watch me! at first i thought i was going mad and texed my mate at 1am coz i was so spooked, the 1st night i had her in my room sitting at the end of the bed she had her head facing down but she seemed to be looking up at me, she looks as if shes watching you out the corner of her eyes but her eyes face forward, ??
It may be haunted, Who knows? It is old after all. Could of had many owners. Was he/she you bought it off the original owner? You may just be feeding off your own thoughts and, thinking it really is haunted. If it bothers you put it in storage or, give it away to someone. It might just be just a creepy looking doll.

While music plays the doll moves from side to side, strums her mandolin, all the while she’s tapping her meet to the music. Circa 1890’s.
Redressed in 1800’s fabrics by the one and only Mary Lambeth, who is not only an amazing reproduction doll artist but also a costumer of the highest regards in the antique doll community.
Excellent job, Mary!
