i recently went to a thrift store and bought an Effanbee cristina doll.i paid four dollars for it.i collect all type of things, this doll has 1983 on the back of her neck.i was wondering is this doll worth anything. should i hold on to it or let my grandkids play with it.it is very good condition. ahe is fully dressed in white dress with a blue belt. she is wearing a bonnet and brown shoes. whaat is it worth. 10 points for the best answer.
Congratulations on your thrift shop buy! And such a fun thing to do!!
I think the best advice is to buy only what you love to collect…not for some future value unless, of course, you’re looking for items to sell on eBay or some other site. For the most part, dolls are a buyer’s market unless you find some rare antique doll.
It’s fine to let your grandkids play with the doll if they are older than 4 or 5 but, if they’re like mine…they probably prefer new dolls like Barbie, Bratz, Polly Pockets, etc.
The other answers identifying the doll as Christina by Jan Hagaara are correct. Artist Jan Hagara is well known for her depiction of Victorian Children in several different mediums. She designed dolls for the Effanbee Doll Company in vinyl, which sold for about 1/2 the price of her porcelain dolls. The dolls all have her beautiful faces, lovely costuming, and were only made for 1 year. If you want to keep and display your doll, you might be interested in finding Larry, the companion doll…..dolls are like potato chips, you know…can’t just have one!

it is an Effanbee doll co. Precious Toddlers collection style no. 2784 – Sarah in its orginal box.. i dont think it has ever been out of the box…
I agree that you should check ebay to see what your doll is currently selling for. But I just did a search in both the active & completed listings and couldn’t find Sarah. I did find Debbie, who would be comparable as she is from the same collection, however her $39.99 asking price is no indicication of value. Keep checking until you spot one that has been sold.

I have a large doll collection of Madame Alexander, Effanbee, Horseman, Ideal, and more! Many in orginial boxes. The dates are from 1930’s-1970’s. Any help would be great!
Although e-bay is the usual answer, I would take a look at some of the doll collecting sites in the internet. A Yahoo search for "doll collectors" turns up 213,000 results. On the first couple of pages of results are sites that can help you value your dolls and many other sites where sellers and buyers come together. The more interest you can generate in your collection, the higher the price you can get so it makes sense to me to offer it in a specialized market. If you do the same search, "doll collectors" (include the quotation marks), and spend a little time exploring, I’m sure you will quickly find willing buyers for your collection.
Good luck with your sale.
this is a 1924 Effanbee bubbles I picked up for 55.00 she was in very bad shape and needed to be repaired it took some time but it was worth it I just love her. I do this as a hobbie for myself.
